Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of ConvertChess. Please read them before creating an account or purchasing Premium. Nothing in them takes away rights you have under consumer law.

Who operates this service

ConvertChess is operated by Jamie Rutherford, trading as ConvertChess, a sole trader based at 7 Woodlands Grove, Bathgate, West Lothian, EH48 2UH, United Kingdom. Contact: support@convertchess.com.

The service

ConvertChess is an endgame chess training app: guided courses, tests, and arcade-style Arcade games. For signed-in users, we analyse your accuracy across your ConvertChess training activity to identify recurring endgame weaknesses and recommend what to train next. Free and Premium tiers are described on the pricing page.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for activity under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it, and provide an accurate email address. Children may play: if you are under 13, a parent or guardian must help create and manage the account; if you are under 18, obtain their permission before using an account. Purchases must be made or approved by an adult.

Profiles and leaderboard sharing are private by default. If you turn public sharing on, your display name, chess-piece avatar, membership month and arcade results may be visible to anyone. Do not use a child's real name or photo in a public profile.

Subscriptions and billing

• Premium renews automatically monthly or yearly at the price and frequency shown immediately before checkout. Subscriptions are paid from the start; there is no free trial. If Premium isn’t for you, email support@convertchess.com within 14 days of your first payment and we will refund it in full. Subscriptions that began with a free trial keep the trial terms shown at their checkout.
• Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, acting as merchant of record — they are the seller for your purchase, and their own terms govern the transaction alongside these. Your payment details are held by them, not by us.
• To cancel, go to Account or your Profile and select "Manage" on your subscription — this opens Lemon Squeezy's customer portal, where you can cancel in a couple of clicks. You keep Premium access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
• Your statutory cancellation and refund rights are unaffected. Lemon Squeezy, as the seller, provides the legally required pre-contract information and handles statutory cancellation and refunds through its customer portal or support. Starting immediate access to digital services may affect the amount refundable where the law permits and the checkout obtains the required express request or acknowledgement.

To exercise a statutory cancellation right, use Lemon Squeezy's customer portal or contact its support, and copy support@convertchess.com. You may say: “I give notice that I cancel my ConvertChess Premium contract”, followed by your name, account email, order date and the date of your request. We will help route the request.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Automate, scrape, or script interactions with ConvertChess outside normal use.
• Attempt to bypass usage limits, quotas, or the free/Premium boundary.
• Interfere with leaderboards through manipulated or automated scores.
• Use the service to harm, abuse, or impersonate others.

We may suspend an account where we reasonably believe there is serious abuse, fraud, a security risk or a material breach. Unless urgent action is needed to protect users or the service, we will explain the reason and give reasonable notice or an opportunity to fix it.

No guarantees

ConvertChess is provided "as is." Engine analysis, diagnoses, and training content are aids for improvement, not a guarantee of rating gains or infallible chess advice. We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Liability

We do not exclude responsibility for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of statutory consumer rights, or anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. We are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable or for business losses suffered by a consumer.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law. If you are a consumer elsewhere in the UK, this does not remove mandatory protections of the law where you live or prevent you bringing a claim in the courts available to you under consumer law.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from Account. An active subscription is cancelled first so you are not left paying for an account you cannot access. Details of deletion and limited legal/provider retention are in the Privacy Policy.

Changes

We may update these terms for legal, security or product reasons. We will give reasonable, prominent notice of a material change before it applies. A change will not retrospectively remove rights already earned. If a change materially disadvantages an active subscriber, they may cancel before it takes effect without a new penalty.
