Learn the technique step by step
Bishop and Knight Mate
Use three phases: box the king onto an edge, use the W manoeuvre to drive it to a corner your bishop controls, then finish with the fixed knight-check and bishop-mate pattern.
Vancura and Short-Side Defence
Use two checklists: in the Vancura, attack a sixth-rank rook pawn from the side and check the king laterally; against other pawns, put your king on the short side and your rook on the long side with checking distance.
Queen against Rook
Queen against rook: reach the Philidor position, hand the move to Black with a queen triangle, and the rook has to leave its king and gets forked.
